Made it through the first week of the cleanse – are you still with me? I know some have started late, or are postponing, but here are the modifications for the next two weeks of the spring cleanse – when you are ready.
Week 2 & 3, we are still avoiding gluten, dairy, refined sugar and limiting or eliminating caffeine. The only modifications to the program will be with the drink and supplementation.
Every morning, still enjoy the water, then lemon water mix, then the cran-water with fiber. The only other time you will be making the cran-water is in the evening, again with the fiber. All other times you were drinking the cran-water in week 1, replace with room temperature water (filtered, please!).
As for the supplementation, increase the fiber (flax meal or psyllium) from 1 Tbsp to 1/5 Tbsp (2 for advanced cleansers), and increase the acai powder in the afternoon from 1 scoop to 1.5 scoops (2 for pros). Remember to include a morning detox tea, preferably a combo tea that includes dandelion, red clover, milk thistle, nettles, or similar herbs.
After the first 3 days, I think I’m past the sugar cravings. Generally, I’m feeling good and my “elimination” organs are working smoothly and daily!! Hope the same is true for you – let me know!! And, yes – more recipes are coming!

Thanks for the great post! You have a new fan.
actually my bowels are still sluggish, small and incomplete…..and my sugar cravings are still with me???
Hi Rosemary – Given what you said in your last post that you have not been having the cran-water regularly and on schedule, I’m not surprised about the sugar cravings, and possibly the bowel too. The cran water assists the liver, giving it a “break” from the heavy duty functions it’s used to. It also helps with the urinary tract, and urination should increase to a more normal and healthy frequency. Are you eating enough vegetables and fiber? If you are sure of that, it could be that you need a little extra push to get things moving. You could consider a colonic or an at home enema and continue with the program. Make sure you are eating enough, and taking the fiber with lots of water, drinking the cran water on schedule and with the increased dosages, you should be cravings free and moving regular. For some people, depending on many factors, cravings can last up to two weeks. I was primarly already gluten free, so that probably aided my ability ending the cravings. Let me know. If you want to email me the specifics of what your normal day is like, I’d be happy to take a look!
thanks.. today. had the 2 am waters + cran+ flax meal..had 1/2 grapefruit after waters but before cran flax mix …took a walk .. ate combo of corn grits and oatmeal with a left over gluten free home made waffle( used some maple syrup for taste( oatmeal had walnuts, raisins, cinnamon). Drank green tea after…had an appointment then a play. From 11:30 -6 only had an orange, drank 110z.pure coconut water and 12 oz plain water
Dinner ate black eyed peas, broccoli, br. rice, salad. Put Bragg liquid amino, olive oil, and one Tlbs apple cider vinegar on salad and Bragg on dinner. drank warm water 10-11oz after.
Does everyone lug 4-5 8-10 oz bottles of cran /water and fiber to work with them?( Plus the acai + almond milk which must be refrigerated ) I really choose to do this cleanse but I need a way for it to be flexible for my schedule and still benefit when not at home or on set or in classes. I know you were on my friend Vaishali’s show. Do you have plans to be a guest so I could call in and speak with you?
I don’t want this to get complicated. Are you saying that if I drank all drinks as required that sugar cravings would cease? I still have honey or stevia in tea or on oatmeal. fruits are sweet. And I have not consumed products with refined sugar and yes I eat enough. I do have questions that can’t be listed.
Hi Rosemary – I don’t want it to get complicated for you either! The maple syrup and honey are not “allowed” on the cleanse, and skipping the lunch meal and the cran water before and after is also not adviseable. If you continue to have the sugar, you are feeding the sugar in the body, which we are trying to cleanse. I would recommend using only stevia or other natural replacer, no agave, maple syrup or honey during the cleanse. It’s up to you and the results you want to see. As for the acai, you don’t have to have it with the almond mild, you can have it with water. I understand you have an inconsistent schedule – believe me, I get it! – it makes a lot of things more difficult. Hope you can hang with it – the 2nd and 3rd week is easier with the cranberry.
If you want to have an appointment with me, you are welcome to let me know. I’m not planning on being on Vaishali’s show any time soon, unless I hear from her.
Hope all is well!!
Okay, no wonder the sugar craves are still with me. I thought small amounts of honey or maple syrup were allowed just not agave or the white sugar. That’s what I did not totally understand. Now do I have to start from day One?
Paige & I only started yesterday, it took us a while to get ourselves together, but we intend to stick it out. Day one went well for me, no cravings yet. I am looking at this as a temporary thing – in a few weeks, I can eat what I want again (although I’m hoping not to want the same sorts of stuff I wanted before). All the cupcakes and stuff will still be there when I’m done, should I decide to eat them once in a while, so I’m not really deprived! It’s all about perspective. Easy to say on day 2, right?
How are you girls doing? Keep up the positive vibe and cleanse that body baby!!
We’re doing great! It’s wonderful to have someone to report to every day, it helps us stay honest, as well as share thoughts, cravings & ideas. End of day 4 for us, and I had not one iota of caffeine today, for the first time in my adult life! Feeling positive & happy.
That’s awesome!!
Yes, we’re having a good experience and I’m learning a lot. It’s been hard for me not to cheat! Very surprising. It’s like I think I need those other things. Now that we’re starting week 2, I’m totally committed to no cheating. The hardest things for me; bread and chewing gum!
I’m so glad to have a partner to keep me accountable!
Hi Leah, just wondering–is it wise to take vitamins while on the cleanse or should I hold off after the cleanse? I take a pre-natal (I’m not pregnant) vitamin, fish oil supplement, & CoQ10.
Hi Blanca -
Those are all pretty standard supplements. I usually recommend taking a supplement vacation periodically, regardless of a cleanse, but it’s up to you. I’m not sure what pre-natal you are taking, is it food based? If not, you might want to switch to a food-based vitamin. The fish oil is fine to continue, as is the CoQ10, but a vacation would be fine for a week also! Thanks!
Thanks for answering and I will take that week off of my supplements; can u recommend a pre-natal? Also, I read ur take on chlorella & spirulina…how long should I wait to try these? And, should I take them inconjuntion w/the the other supplements.
Thank u for ur advice & interesting–if not inspiring articles on the natural care of the body.
For food based, easy to find and reasonably priced supplements, I like new chapters food line Supplement for women and some of garden of life ( but not sure they have a ‘pre-natal’.
The chlorella and spirulina ante great additions to a diet. Spirulina is a good protein source and it would be fine to add this in during this cleanse or immediately following. I didn’t include te chlorella in this particular program for several reasons, but as I mention in the article, it’s a powerful cleanser and you should go slow. Some people experience stomach issues if not. In general, I don’t like throwing a whole lot of supplemental nutrition together at once, unless specifially treating a condition, mostly because it’s hard to know what’s working well with your body or not. For instance, acai is a great superfios and often gives people a nice energy lift and an appetizer suppresant. Depending on you body, it may not be so noticeable or even have lesser affects. Spirulina is great protein and also gives some people good source of energy, but could more of an appetite stimulant. So, I think it’s best to try to rid the body of false cravings and addictions, cleanse and get back into homeostasis then begin with other supplement usage slowly.
Certain things are easier for me.. I rarely drink coffee but could do hot chocolate. Eat fish sometimes…used agave a lot( but not now)..shied away from dairy and wheat when possible. But this cleanse is helping me choose Not to eat my beloved muffins, or wine with dinner. It has saved some money from not eating out as much. I did taste some vegan tomato soup last week and found out it had brown sugar in it. I could taste it so I did not order it.
Glad it’s getting a little easier to discern what to have and not have! It’s amazing how our brain and body react when in balance and some of the stress is alleviated from the body taking in a lot of different “foods” – keep it up, it only gets easier and by week 3, you’ll find the foods you used to crave are no longer a craving!
I still like my waffles…
You don’t have to start over with day one. You can do the following: This week, (week 3) take 4 of the 7 days and follow week 1 example with the cran water. Take it regularly and eliminate the sweets completely, except the foods listed as Ok. Do that for 4 days, then for 3 days follow the week 2-3 plan. Starting with week four, it will mimic week 1, so you will still get the same amount of days with the cran water flush, with increased fiber. Continue to restrict the foods listed, and all will be well!
Okay I will see how that may now fit into my new schedule. I get that we are doing this to cleanse our bodies, so after May 15 other foods we consume will have sugar in them or perhaps contain wheat/dairy. If we do this, are we no longer supposed to have cravings or tastes for the No foods? What is the ultimate goal if we re-introduce the No’s back into our bodies?
What I’m looking forward to most is being free of cravings! I want my body to crave natural foods, and I’m getting there!
gee Paige I am glad you are getting there by not having the cravings. Wanting something sweet is still with me whether or not one calls it a craving.
In general during the day or after eating, I have a taste for something sweet. Is that considered a craving??? About 4-5 lbs have left my body and I feel a little lighter but eliminations are still once in the morning. And I am drinking liquids. I always add a little more water to the cran+ than called for.
