Fruits and veggies
Welcome to your 3-Day Detox Diet Planner! This is a great way to cleanse your body and feel totally revitalized, but first you need to get prepared. Two to three days before starting this cleanse (in this case, Thursday prior to the Sunday start date) start reducing intake of heavy foods, meats, alcohol and caffeine from your diet. During this time, whatever you can buy organic, I recommend you do so. Get creative with the fruits & veggies, we want to pack in the nutrients and avoid boredom. The details of how to cleanse will be posted by Friday and I’ll lead the cleanse from Sunday, May 1 – Tuesday, May 3. See the blogs prior to this post for additional cleansing tips and equipment you may need!
FOOD SHOPPING LIST:
Fruits** (bananas, grapefruit, green apples, mangoes, kiwi, blueberries, figs, oranges, raspberries, etc.)
Veggies (broccoli, beets, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, kale, bell peppers, lettuce, carrots, etc.)
3-6 Lemons
Brown Rice (short grain preferable)
Nuts (unsalted pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans) NO Peanuts
Olive Oil &/or Coconut Oil
No-Fat PLAIN yogurt (I like the thicker, Greek yogurt myself)
Fish (white fish preferable or salmon or tuna)
**To reduce cost and increase ease of preparation, I’ll be using a pre-packaged frozen smoothie by Jamba. They are super easy to make and contain a variety of fruits with a bit of yogurt, so you can eliminate chopping and cleaning fruit before making smoothies! Store locator and product info is on Jamba’s site. Will require juice.
SUPPLEMENT SHOPPING LIST:
Psyllium Husks (ground)**
Epsom salts (if you have a bath tub)
Flaxseed Oil or flax meal (I use Forti-Flax by Barlean’s)
Herbal Teas (and/or natural coffee substitutes) – See below–
**If you want to use herbal colon/detox elimination teas in the evening, do not take psyllium husks during the cleanse. You may do one or the other. Some of the detox teas that are recommended may include licorice, red clover, dandelion, chamomile, mullein and a variety colon cleansing herbs such as senna. Use as directed and with caution, along with ample water.
Filtered Water
**If you are extremely active &/or participating in sports/yoga during the cleanse, I recommend a good energy elixir like YogaEarth pre/post exercise elixirs. They are easy to mix, fortify your body with nutrients and keep your energy up! At the least, with heavy activity, make sure you are hydrated and don’t overdo it during the cleanse. Coconut water is a great way to replenish your body as well.
ELIMINATE:Coffee, caffeinated and fizzy drinks
Sugar, chocolate (my addiction!),
Breads, pasta or other yeast or gluten products
White rice, potatoes, crackers
Dairy (with the exception listed)
Fast food & fatty food
Alcohol
All meats (fish listed ok)
If you have any questions, please leave a comment so I can address them for all to see. I will post the How-To Cleanse along with meal suggestions, pictures and cleansing yoga moves by Friday!
I’m excited – let’s do this!

Sometimes it is very useful and interesting to add a video to post, that makes your imagination process much more clear.
Hi Leah,
I was wondering on the “No” list it has no yeast or gluten products, so does that mean you could use gluten free products? Also I am in the big city of Owensboro and was wondering if I can’t find the jamba what another substitution might be? I am excited about this if I can get my body cravings on board!:). Have to be mentally strong which is an area I am lacking in, but think your support through it will be a great help!! Thanks for what you do!
Kim
Hey Kim! Good questions.
As for the Jamba, they are in a lot of stores in the midwest. I bet if you check the Kroger or target in the area, you will find it. Look in the freezer section with either the frozen fruit or “novelty” items.
This is a gluten-free cleanse, but even saying, the gf pre-packaged products are pretty much off limits too. Most of them have sugar in them (like the breads) – but If you are extremely active, you could get away with one slice in the morning of brown rice or millet bread.
Some questions. Psyllium husks…store suggestions? Do they carry these in most natural food stores? Will it be a smoothie per day? Ie. how many pre-packaged smoothies to buy for the 3 days? As for the YogaEarth elixirs, are they sold in stores and if not, is there an alternative you can recommend that is sold in stores? Thanks!
Hey Liz! We are going to be doing 2 fruit smoothies per day and either 1 green drink plus one salad or 2 green salads. For the fruit smoothies, If you buy the Jamba smoothie packs, there is 2, 8oz smoothies in each so you’d need to buy 3 packages (they are only about $2.40 at Target). Or, buy enough fruit for 6 smoothies.
The psyllium husks can be found at any health food store. Same with flaxmeal – or even in the healthfood section or baking section at a commercial grocer!
YogaEarth I only know that you can purchase on-line. At the health store there are other energy vitamin mixes (if you are doing heavier exercise) like oxylent or even emergen-c will do. That or coconut water to make sure you are hydrated!

Hi, I’m trying to gear myself up to do this detox, but will have a really hard time giving up my coffee in the am. Is there any way, I can keep coffee and still do the detox?
Hey Chanda!
It’s best to eliminate any stimulants during the cleanse, but I understand the “need”! If you can’t let the coffee go, try to make the morning cup half/caf, and drink organic if possible to loose those chemicals in non-org coffee brands. When I quit coffee, I did 1/2 decaf, 1/2 caf for a week, then switched to an alt coffee like Teeccino, then went to peppermint tea and finally I needed nothing in the morning. Let me know how it goes and if you start the 1/2 CAF prior to the detox, you’ll be all the better!
just read your blog, generally very good with cool content, helpful for us, though i dont agree some ideas. i have subscribe your blog
This is some good content here, I think most people can benefit from this here post. I may have to pass this reading to a couple friends I know.
However appealing the negative impacts might sound intended for weight loss, deficiency of glucose might be lousy. The same principle applies when buying Acai fruit weight loss supplements.
Thank you. Is it ok for me to have read these books that contain double blind peer reviewed scientific journal info? Most people fear cancer. Why? Right now your body just like mine is creating cancer cells and if we do not have a compromised immune system (1. toxicity or 2. deficiencies), our NK cells and other proteins will destroy them. WHAT’S MY POINT? to remind those that may be mislead about what cancer really is. PS. You won’t read about this in your PRSJ per se.Create harmonyLove MM
Hello Leah, Im trying to do this 3 day detox cleanse before I have a gastric bypass I want to get all the bad things out before im stuck not being able to have the listed food items. Im going to be on strictly liquid my question is does that colon cleanse tea take a bit to work i dont want to be away from a restroom when i have to go.. should i use that tea after surgery too..Im curious because I take alot of medications Im a stroke survivor and I have homozygous with all these factors is it a good idea to cleanse before surgery or just do that and it will naturally cleanse itself? im so curious i wanted to do dr oz 3 day detox cleanse but i cant find it..what do u recomend?
Hi – I would consult with your doctor before doing any type of cleanse before your surgery. It is sometimes recommended that after a surgery a mild detox could be helpful to rid the body of waste and toxins from necessary medications, etc. However, doing a cleanse would need to be part of the healing process AFTER the recovery. As I don’t know the nature of your condition or why you are having the surgery, it’s difficult to speak directly to your situation. But in ANY regard, I’d check first with your primary physician, surgeon and also if you have a nutritionist or counselor nearby.
